On January 26th 2004, in a simultaneous live satellite transmission from a studio in Los Angeles, across multiple time zones, to cinemas throughout the United States of America, a 75 minute version of the film Yesspeak was premiered.

Following this live broadcast, the fans in the cinemas were treated to an exclusive, one time only, live performance from Yes. For the first time, the classic Yes lineup of Jon Anderson, Steve Howe, Chris Squire, Alan White and Rick Wakeman, performed 'live and unplugged'. This is the recording of that digital transmission... YES ACOUSTIC.

Yes Acoustic was transmitted live, but the band had been in the studio all day rehearsing... this is a 'behind the scenes' look at what happened before they went 'live'. Narrated by Rick Wakeman.

Yes were in Los Angeles to promote the release of their latest compilation album 'The Ultimate Yes' and their DVD 'Yesspeak'. This is an FM recording of their live studio performance in 'Jim Ladd's Living Room' hosted by the famous LA DJ. As with many FM recordings, it's compressed to bloody HELL!! Why do they make the music so G-damn loud with overboard compression? Few notes about the remastering. I removed much of the harshness in the treble range and adjusted down the amplitude to 80% of 0dB. I've included a bit of the radio program leading up to the broadcast.

This was a live acoustic performace put on by KLOS FM95.5 to celebrate Yes' release of their latest album & DVD. The performace was quite good, although the soundguy had much difficulty in getting the sound right. The sound was very low as the show started and gradually got louder. Perhaps too loud, as you can hear the stage right PA's distort in the left channel of the recording. Rick's sound was buried throughout!! There were several adjustments to the recording including amplitude adj. and normalization. Removed some loud handclaps and added some high end EQ. The low end was brought down just a tad to even things out. It was a short but sweet performance and a band 'Meet & Greet' followed afterwards. I got my '03 Tour Program signed by all of them :)

[From the listener] Second show in the 35th Anniversary Tour. This recording is okay but its main problem is the bass distortion at higher levels. Watch out for the remastered version, if you're an audiophile and only like A- to A+ recordings, don't bother with this until the remaster is out. I'm not 100% sure if the distortion can be removed, either... We'll see.

TT notes that this is the best of the 5 shows he/she recorded, with the least flubs by the band. The audience is also less noisy than on other TT recordings of this tour. SMT notes that this is the best-sounding of the four TT recordings he mastered. It is also the last show TT recorded on this tour (despite my begging for a recording of the MSG show, TT was unable to comply). This was my 3rd attempt to synch up this awesome DAT sourced audio recording with this nicely shot video. Unfortunately, the version of the video I had originated from the dreaded Japanese bootleg company, "Highland" who screwed it up somehow. There were small gaps and breaks throughout the disc, and the Highland logo was super-imposed on to the video during "Firebird Suite". The gaps and breaks made it nearly impossible to properly synch the audio and video track.
However, thanks to Paul G, I was able to borrow his video that he got directly from the taper, and it did not have the problems that were present on the Highland version. However, the lip-synch on this version was off about 400 milliseconds, which I was able to correct when synching the new audio track to the video. I'm extremely pleased with the results. The sound is awesome, and the video is very well shot.

This recording of the historic performance by Yes at MSG is arguably better than ones which have previously surfaced. The recording location is more distant - on the floor of the arena, but near the back - but there is none of the bass distortion which marred other versions. Audio has been engineered to reduce the echo and delay which characterizes MSG recordings.

This was the last night of the tour. An amazing night by both bands (Dream Theater and Yes). The recording is very high quality with hard tight bass, the mix was spectacular. Everything is very clear. There is almost no direct crowd noise.
Two minor problems:
1. I needed to make a kind of funky fade and dissolve after “Yours Is No Disgrace” nothing is cut, but JA was speaking all the way between the songs.
2. During “Awaken” there is an approx. 30 seconds missing for a tape change. I smoothed as best as possible. I was not anticipating this song, so I came up short on tape. Sorry folks.
