2002-08-05 Radio City Music Hall, New York
Speaking of listening to the car, I was disappointed myself when I was listenting to these discs in the car. "Where's the bass?" I remembered hearing it when I was remastering, and the 20 or so times I listened to this show in headphones at work. The low end is more of a thumping kick drum, and isn't that audible on systems without woofers, or bassy headphones. Sorry about that guys, just turn up the bass for these discs. Live and learn I guess.
Enjoy the show,

Here's what I am going to do. The discs that went out are lacking in bass and sound very thin. I started to suspect something was wrong listening in the car last week. I had replaced my headphones with a different set of the same model headphones, however it seems that even though its the same model, its much bassier. I remastered using these and it sounded fine to me. I also listen mostly in headphones at work which were also bassy.
Hopefully you will like the new version a lot better.
I am also going to try to get a hold someone else I know who recorded the show. If I can get a hold of him, perhaps I can patch the idiot yelling in Awaken and clean up the organ solo.

Hi all,
Well, I can safely say my first effort at weeding one of my remasteres on Yesswap has turned out to be a complete and utter disaster. Things probably couldn't have gone wrong.
First, before I even sent the discs to the trunks, I wound up redoing all the disc twos due to a volume error on the Wakeman solo.
Somehow I sent half the trunks the incorrect Disc 1.
One trunks replacement disc got lost in the mail and had to be resent.
General concensus was that it the whole thing sounded bad anyway, because there was no bass. This was caused by a new set of headphones which were the same model as my old ones, but evidently Koss changed the specs. I got suspicious when it sounded like crap in my car (at home and work, I listen to shows entirely with headphones, so to me it sounded great!)
Now I have it fixed. The sound is much more even now, and in
between moving boxes, tiling floors, ripping out carpet and painting in our new
house, I've been scrambling to listen to this thing on every possible system and
speaker set, because I am now paranoid about it. Anyways, I think everyone will
be much happier with it now.
The one good thing that came out of this was that in the time it took for all
this to transpire, I uncovered another source and was able to fix the two other
most glaring issues. The low sound on the organ solo and the screaming drunk guy
during Awaken. The organ solo was still very low volume on the alternate
recording, but the crowd was a little quieter so I could turn it up and not turn
the crowd up as well. Unfortunately, the recording was very hissy, especially at
this low volume, so I had to dehiss it. While it worked, there is a noticable
loss of sound quality during this part, but its still better than the previous
version. I kept the "Cord of Life" section the same as before, since it sounded
better than the dehissed newer version. The Awaken patch is better, as that was
at a normal volume and fit together pretty well.
Also, if anyone has good suggestions for affordable headphone suitable for remastering, let me know. I replaced my old Koss pair that I remastered 180 shows with due to a faulty wire. I only did a couple shows on the new pair, so I hope this encounter doesn't steer people away from my remasters in the future. (I assure you, most of them have plenty of bass :) ). I plan to do another show in the coming months, and get it right the first time, just to prove I can do it.
Well, I apologize for the inconvenience this has caused.

Thanks again to everyone who has helped me out with this. BTW, the new version is completed, and should be a lot better. No more screaming drunk guy in "Awaken" either!!!
(MP 2002-09-10)
I have a completely fixed copy of the show that has bass, much better sound, and the organ solo and middle of Awaken have been patched from other versions.
(MP 2002-09-15)
This version has bass, and also had an improved version of the organ solo, and the drunk guy removed from "Awaken" (thanks to JB for providing the alternate source on short notice, and to RE for helping me get it!).

Hopefully someone can help me out with this or at the very least tell me I'm nuts. Hold your "You're Nuts Rayzilla!" urges till after you've read my post you knuckle-heads ;-)
I've read several posts within this forum of a drunken person heard screaming on the RCMH 2002 recording. I've read posts that claim he can be heard during Rick's solo and others where the drunk can be heard during "Awaken." Which is it? Is it in both tracks? Just how bad is it? Are we talking a few seconds or does he carry on throughout the song?
The reason I ask is because I have a RCMH '02 recording that I got from a friend who's not a member of this forum. Now it's not that good a recording...it's rather distant and bass-heavy. But I don't hear a drunk screaming during "Awaken" and during Rick's solo there's some distant crowd enthusiasm but I wouldn't consider the track ruined to the point where repairs are imperative.
Now for the record I'm not the type of boot collector that considers the slightest blemish to render a recording worthless. So I'm asking for an honest evaluation...just how bad is the screaming drunk on the RCMH '02 recording? Does he shout over the music?

A bit more undecipherable stuff follows. And more in between all of this. But I couldn't sort it all out.
Thankfully at about this point, you can't hear him much more at about the 9:50 mark.
1.Because Rick is getting much louder.
and
2.I think he finally shuts his cake-hole.
You can hear him a bit during Rick's solo earlier in the set but with not nearly the heightened enthusiasm he has during Awaken.
Hopefully that gives you a pretty good idea.

LOL! This was funny. I can't believe anyone would try to decipher what this guy was saying! Anyway, I've heard from the original taper of the show, "TT." This is what the taper has to say about this guy:
Actually, I was the one to finally get security to kick the jerk out. After about two minutes of this nonsense (it seemed more like two hours), I couldn't take it anymore and opened the door to the lobby to flag down security. Since I was wearing the mics I could not talk, so I used sign language... basically pointed at him, then made a sharp pointing motion like "He's OUTTA here!!" Fortunately they took care of it pretty quickly after that.
I could not listen to this part of the tape for weeks. When you tape, episodes like this can ruin your evening, and I just didn't want to be reminded. Funny thing, though, was that when I finally did hear it for the first time several weeks later, I started laughing my head off. The whole thing (with the audience members' comments) just struck me as incredibly funny. Time heals all wounds, I guess. :)
end quote.
I agree with the taper, after the first few listens, I just had to laugh. Anyway, the new "patched, bassier" version is making its way through the weed structure, so you guys wont have to deal with this guy for much longer!

I just can't help myself... I have to comment on the Radio City weed. To start.... the only reason I collect Yes and Genesis audio and video is I love to listen to the groups in the raw. By that I mean instead of listening to a live album that has what the producers consider to be the best performance with the best audio to sell us, I enjoy the boo-boos, The false starts.... where the lead singer addresses a idiot in the audence..this is the true essence of a live show. I always try to record a live show to the best of my ability and hopefully in the right conditions and atmosphere. But on some nights the freaks come out and the people I feel for on those night are the groups performing and the fans that want to hear a perfectly performed uninterrupted show. I mean that is what we pay for. But on some nights the idiots are out in force and it can't be helped. That is in fact what security if for. Some of these jerks I don't want to hear because what they have to say hurts others. But some on the other hand can make for the best in comedy.
The loud drunk guy doing what seems to be his Michel Sipe "Losing My Religion" dance during Rick's solo in "Awaken" while sometimes talking in tongues is a real hoot. I am so glad that I have both copies of the show, the one with him and without him via a digital makeover. At times I am sure Charlie Manson knows what he is saying and 30+ years ago if this recording was around people would sit around stoned trying to figure out what he is saying. Personally, I think these guys who want to go to a gig like Yes need to find a venue that has rear grass lawn seating and then find a corner where they can all gather and gibber to each other.
The other thing I wanted to comment on is Track 11 on Disk two of the revised show. BRILLENT!!!!! BRAVO!!!!AND THANK YOU!!!! For all those that don't have the new version yet this track is an 8 second clip of the loud drunk guy in the middle of the most cryptic part of his rant. It is like finding an Easter egg in your software. A nice treat indeed. This show has my vote for the best show of the tour so far..... I only wish I recorded it.
(MMcK 2002-09-25)
LOL! Glad you liked that. I Stuck that on because when listening to the new version, I actually missed that guy. He made me laugh every time. I only wish I had more space on the disc to do a little longer than eight seconds. The other hilarious thing was that someone posted a transcript of this guy. Its even funnier reading it!
Glad you liked the show. Hopefully, it was worth all the trouble.
